…back to the zoo…

Hey…been a minute.

My neighbourhood is always a zoo…just the animals stay indoors when it’s cold. As it warms up, they usual come outdoors to practice their hobbies like smoking crack or meth, stealing shit from the corner store and occasionally perpetrating violence on one another.

I heard a disturbance on the street this morning. I ignored it at first (none of my business) but it went on for some time. When I got the nerve to go peer out my front door the street was full of cops…again.

In the past three months in my inner city neighbourhood police have been involved in two standoffs, confiscated almost 400 weapons and I don’t know how much crack, meth and pills.

I’m not living in Baltimore or Detroit. I’m not living in Montreal or Vancouver either. I’m living in a 130,000 person town, on an island in the North Atlantic. Since the pandemic began things here have gone so far downhill that it’s hard to get by.

We’re seeing big city shit here now. A couple of streets where the cops won’t go, corner store closures because thefts are far outdistancing sales and constant badgering in all corners for change, cigarettes, etc. Many of them are so aggressive that when I do leave my flat I am either headed for a vehicle or I am ready to use my cane (I am a disabled senior) in case of a physical attack.

All of this while our government, no matter what political stripe they claim, pours money into hydro and other projects that ate up an entire 22 billion dollar surplus in three years…

‘ Nuff said…for now
